The Sojourn youth group held its kickoff on Saturday, June 7. It was a night of food, fun, and some really rockin’ music, thanks to a little band named Meridian.
There was Pizza Chef pizza, chips and soda to fill the hungry bellies…
Guitar Hero got the party started…
Then the band took the stage and really rocked it.
After Meridian played, the group had a blast with some interesting and messy games. They really got some laughs out of the crowd.
Like this game, where the person participating is supposed to try to imitate everything that Kevin (one of the youth group leaders) says and does. Little did this guy know that when he stood up from his seat, BJ was waiting in the shadows to put a soaking-wet sponge on his seat. He was a trooper, though…
In the next game, there were wagers to see who could fit the most saltine crackers in their mouth and still sing the theme to Spongebob Squarepants. The two brave souls each bet they could fit 20 crackers in their mouths.
I told Kendra I would post this picture so she could blackmail Kody.
Everyone also had a blast playing Dance Dance Revolution…even our pastor, Matt.
But don’t mess with Kendra…she is a DDR pro. Look at that concentration!
Then the group played a trivia game with a twist. There were 8 ingredients - 4 good ingredients (strawberries, orange juice, bananas, and whipped cream) and 4 bad ingredients (spicy pickle, mustard, mayo, and sour cream).
You answer a question correctly, you get a good ingredient; answer it wrong, you get a bad ingredient. The whipped cream was a big hit.
She answered three questions correctly and one incorrectly. She had no problem drinking her smoothie.
He, on the other hand, got three incorrect and only one correct. You can tell by the look on his face that it isn’t looking good.
There was a bit of a technincal difficulty, so it had to be re-mixed.
But he was so grossed out that he passed off the smoothie to someone else who was up for the challenge.
The last game of the night involved bananas, bananas and more bananas. Four people were blindfolded and were told to peel and eat as many bananas as possible. But the joke was on Clint, who was the only one actually stuffing himself with bananas as the rest of the “contestants” sat, watched, and laughed.
The youth group meets every Sunday at Sojourn from 5:30-7:00 p.m. If you’re in junior high or high school and like to have fun, it’s the place to be.
