The most difficult thing for me these days is to figure out how to speak the truth of Jesus without being brushed off…again…
I feel like I live in an area where once you enter into a conversation about “church,” “god,” or “Jesus” everybody instinctually thinks or believes they’ve already heard everything that a “church” or “christian” has to say about that…and I never know if they have or not, but the response keeps me guessing and makes me hesitate…and they have nothing more to hear nor anything more to make a decision on.
I am reminded that the only thing that does save us from the destructive behaviors of our sin is “the Gospel truth.” Jesus came into the world to save it by his death for our sins; “God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again” (John 3:17, The Message).
It is not who we are, what we do, how we serve…it is the truth that God does love and Jesus did come to rescue us from the destruction of our sin!
Have you heard that? Have you seen it lived?
Have you spoken that? Have you lived it? Are you ready to live it and speak it?
But how can people call for help if they don’t know who to trust? And how can they know who to trust if they haven’t heard of the One who can be trusted? And how can they hear if nobody tells them? And how is anyone going to tell them, unless someone is sent to do it? That’s why Scripture exclaims…But not everybody is ready for this, ready to see and hear and act. Isaiah asked what we all ask at one time or another: “Does anyone care, God? Is anyone listening and believing a word of it?” The point is: Before you trust, you have to listen. But unless Christ’s Word is preached, there’s nothing to listen to. - (Romans 10:14-17 The message)
