Forgiveness

Forgiveness width=

Today at Sojourn, we continued our series about “Forgiveness.” As in past weeks, BJ and the praise band kicked things off by taking a secular song that touches on that very subject. This time it was “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.” Keeping it light, BJ dressed up in Sir Elton John style. It [...]

Christmas is about…forgiveness?

Christmas is about…forgiveness? width=

This Christmas Season we are straying from the traditional and discussing forgiveness! Our forgiveness depended on the survival and protection of the most vulnerable thing in the world - a baby in a manger. In the same way, our forgiveness of others is vulnerable to destruction by a world that tells us to hold on to our hearts and protect ourselves instead of trusting in God to forgive and guide our hearts. Join us this season as we discuss God's forgiveness of you, and your forgiveness of others. In this three-part study, we learn how to forgive others, how to ask for forgiveness, and what it means to be forgiven.

Thanksgiving Weekend - Left Over Sunday! width=

The Sunday after Thanksgiving we are calling “left-over Sunday.”  The Teacher’s Group is putting together a Sunday morning of worship, food, and story telling.  Service will start at 10:30 and food will begin at 11:00.  Stay as long as you like, and we will be sharing your stories and stories about each other.

Where do I belong? What’s my purpose? How do I find it?

Where do I belong? What’s my purpose? How do I find it? width=

What is God’s will for our lives?  How do we find it?  Where do we begin? We’re going to look at what is called the “Great Commission” the next few weeks!  The Great Commission is one of the final directives from Jesus!  How does it apply to us today?

Why do we argue with others? What can we do about it?

Why do we argue with others? What can we do about it? width=

Why do we argue with each other?  Why do we fight? Why are there conflicts?  What do we do?  The next two weeks we will be reading what Scripture says in James about conflict, arguing, and what to do about it.  Last week we talked about how the tongue contributes to our problems, and the next two [...]

Controlling the tongue!

Controlling the tongue! width=

I firmly believe that the majority of the stress in anybody's life is because of our tongues! I believe rough times happen, no matter what they are, and our failure to control what we say in those rought times causes a significantly greater amount of relational stress in our lives. Whether it's additional relational stress in our marriages, with our children, at our jobs, or at church...I recently re-read James 3, the passage on tongues...It's probably passages I should read every morning before I do anything else! [Read entire post to see video]MAY THIS SCHOOL YEAR BE A YEAR THAT ALL OF US FIND OURSELVES CLOSER TO JESUS...AND MAY WE URGENTLY, AND DESPERATELY, CRY OUT TO GOD TO CALL US TO WALK ON WATER....AND THEN HAVE THE FAITH TO DO IT.

Women’s Spa Day

Women’s Spa Day width=

A handful of women gathered at Sojourn this past Sunday for a much-needed spa day. After having lunch provided by Cathy Brunton, the ladies did facials with Mary Kay products. Consultant Misty Majors led the ladies through skin care and makeup choices. After getting all dolled up, the women moved on to jewelry. Donna Mullins, Lia [...]

Developing a Sowing Mentality Part 2

Developing a Sowing Mentality Part 2 width=

Why is it that some missional leaders see growth in their church every year?  Why is it that some can crash through growth barrier after growth barrier?  There are multiple issues around this subject but one thing rings true in every leader I know who hasn’t settled on a plateau.  Each of these leaders possesses [...]

5th Sunday was great! width=

5th Sunday was great!

On the fifth Sunday of this month, you won't find us in a building . This is a step for us to help keep our perspective off ourselves and on our community. We meet at our regular time (10:30) at the church and then break off into groups that head off around the city of Evansville to help make a difference. We only have a couple of rules about this experiment: 1. You can't sleep in and count it as a day off. (sorry) 2. You can't give your offering to the church. (find someone to bless)

Our children are active! width=

Our children are active!

Unfortunately, we don’t have a real good “techie” among all the children’s leaders that can update all that our children are doing.  We need to collect pictures and get those posted.  They have been bowling and had events and the Sunday school teachers have been awesome in their teaching, prayer, and care for our children!  They are [...]

We are a unique blend of people who journey, love, serve and learn together to become more like Jesus. We have a Thursday night group at 6:30 and Friday nights at 7:30. We share some food stuff-of-life conversation when we come together. Each group establishes its own “rhythm” for their experience together.
