The Feast

Our fall feast gathering will fall on the eve of the Biblical, Feast of Trumpets.  As usual, we will gather for the breaking of bread together in communion, sharing in reflection, and enjoying a full dinner together. This month there will also be introductions into the fall biblical feasts. Though often unknown, October is a month rich in spiritual tradition. We will introduce some of the invitations of the month ahead and share a fall feasts guide that can be utilized personally or in groups and families over the month of October if you would like.  Please RSVP below to help us with setup and preparations, as well as signing up to bring food for the evening.

Family Meeting

One of our favorite gatherings at Sojourn is here: the quarterly Family Meeting. This is more than a business update—it’s a relaxed time for decons and elders to share information, updates, and direction with the body and to ask questions together. If you’re a member or just curious about some of the behind the scenes work within our family, consider joining us for this important time of conversation.

It’s also a potluck lunch! We will provide the main course, but please bring your favorite sides, drinks, or desserts (and an empty stomach).

Small Group Connect

If you’ve decided to join a Small Group this fall, join us on Sunday evening for some guided conversation around what to expect out of this important communal practice we’re entering together.

There won’t be a full meal, but feel free to bring some evening snacks to share with everyone.

Monthly Feast

Join us for a monthly feast in which we gather around tables to remember, reflect, pray, sing, eat, and celebrate together, in what we have traditionally known as Communion/the Lord’s Supper/Eucharist/etc. This is done partly as a larger group through liturgy and song, as well as more intimately through intentional conversation and reflection around your table. It is a larger scale of communion and shared hospitality, derived from the gatherings of the early church. We will incorporate some elements of the biblical feasts and the modern day church calendar as we gather throughout the year.

This is a great space for those who are looking to have intentional conversation with others and draw closer with Christ together, but may not be in a time or season to commit to a small group. It is also an open space for any small groups to include as part of their rhythm of meeting together, amongst a larger gathering.

As per the early church, much of the “work of introspection” in which we commonly now associate with communion, was done before the gathering. In light of this, we will provide you with some information and questions for reflection to spend some time processing before our time together each month.

Coworking

The church will be open for anyone who would like to come and “work.” This can mean anything from official business, to personal projects, planning, busy work you need to catch up on, or even taking time to create through art or writing. Whatever it may be, the space is open for you. Come and go as you please.

There will be spaces for those who would like to work together, or around others, perhaps engaging in conversation, as well as spaces of quiet for those who need to focus a bit more.

For anyone who would like to join, we will offer a few pauses for prayer of the hours throughout the day. There will be a call to prayer to open the day, at 9:15, one at lunch (bring/get your own lunch) at noon, and prayer to close the day at 3:00. None of these are extensive, but help us practice rhythms of working, pause, and prayer.

Andy Squyers Concert

Andy Squyres is bringing his songs and stories to Evansville IN for a night of laughter and tears in an up close acoustic concert.

Tickets $20
Purchase Here

Andy Squyres is a singer-songwriter born and raised in the mountains of Northern California but after moving east in the late 1990’s, he’s spent the last few decades carving songs out of the foothills of his North Carolina home. Heavily influenced by the poetics of Leonard Cohen, Squyres leans heavily into the lyrical tradition of artists like Bob Dylan, The National, and John Mark McMillan, having a passion for words that are equally worshipful and honest.

His live show is ache on display, a joyful protest, at once humorous and tragic, weaving together songs and tales of heartbreak and hope, making audiences laugh and sometimes cry while feeling the wonder of the sorrows and joys of life.

In 2016 he released his album Cherry Blossoms and most recently in 2021 he released his album Poet Priest which Brett McCracken of The Gospel Coalition named the album of the year stating that "If people claim Christian music is all schmaltz that sugarcoats reality, they haven’t listened to Andy Squyres. The Charlotte-based (by way of California) singer-songwriter makes beautiful, brutal music that wrestles with grief, pain, and the struggles of faith."

In 2021 and 2022 he also released books called Poet Priest Vol.1 and Poet Priest Vol.2, respectively. They are each compilations of essays about being content with living a small, faithful life.

Candlelight Stations of the Nativity

The space will be set up for anyone who would like to come by and engage a little deeper and more personally with the journey towards and surrounding the arrival of Jesus.

Each station contains elements of art, written reflection and prayer, as well as space for reflection. You may choose to spend as much time at each station as you’d like, walking through the stations all at one sitting, or perhaps spending more time in deeper conversation, contemplation and reflection with Jesus through one, or a few stations at a time.

Anyone is able to come and go as they please during this time, as there will not be a set program or agenda.

If you consider yourself a young adult, feel free to join in! We know this is a bit of a loose definition, and an age that holds a lot of transition. This may be college age or beyond. Most weeks consist of a time of scripture reflection and study, space to check in on life, and pray together. If you’ve got questions feel free to contact Justin Fritch (618)791-2765 or Tad Specht (812)604-0175.
